What Is a Chord?
A chord is a group of three or more notes played together. Chords are built by stacking intervals (usually thirds) on top of a root note. The most basic chord type is a triad, which consists of three notes: the root, third, and fifth. The two most common triad types are major (bright, happy) and minor (dark, sad). Beyond triads, you can add more notes to create seventh chords, extended chords, and altered chords.
